To Chemo or Not to Chemo….

Should I do the Chemotherapy? Have the surgery?  Only do Alternative treatment? Take the medications? Do the radiation? or ____________fill in the blank.

This conversation takes place in our office every week and daily  in homes around the Country.  Life as we know it stops dead in its tracks when you or someone you love sits face-to-face with the news of a life-threatening diagnosis.

More personally this was a conversation I  lived with when a beloved family member faced  a life changing diagnosis.  The loss is still ripe with sudden moments of deep ache and sadness punctuated by a need to make it all mean something …be something …contribute something more that may make a difference to one other person or a family who is navigating this uncharted territory.

Meryl Streep said, "it’s amazing how one person dies and the whole world seems empty."

Some Experiences Leave Us Forever Changed

My brother was a big force.  He didn’t come into the world soft like a spring rain and he didn’t exit any more gently.  His journey on earth was volcanic, colorful, adventurous and bold.  Why should his transition be anything other?  Living life with such boldness often comes with a price that may include feelings of: injury, loss, achievement, acquisition, understanding, betrayal, anger, resentment and sudden spiritual insight.

Our Mom died when she was only 51 years and me and my siblings were in our early years of adulthood.  Innately I assumed a mother/sister role with my younger brother and our rich love was entangled by deep conflict, –fraught with competition, loyalty, fierce stubborness and passion for life.

Vincent’s journey of reckless abandonment left him in the hospital with broken bones, ribs, internal bleeding, Hep C, Cirrhosis, Diabetes and more.  He was stitched up, sewn up and sent back out to pasture so many times we all knew him as the man with more lives than most of us dreamed possible.  Most of these incidents would have left many with a much earlier demise but his faith in what he knew to be God and his ability to find a way when he was told there is none was undeniably other worldly.

I loved this about him and I hated this about him.  I wanted him to live.  I wanted him to be on this journey with me for as long my life would last.

A year ago we realized we were soon to loose him and we gathered at Christmas to have a living memorial and tell him while he could see us, hear us and hug us how much his life impacted ours and how much he was loved.

30 days later he was still with us and I asked him if he wanted to live or leave and he said, "I WANT TO LIVE!"  Okay then I said, "here is what I am offering you….Come live with us in our home and I’ll assume full care of your health and treatment.  All I wanted from him was to give it 100% no matter what.  He said, YES!"

I’ll never forget the day my sister-in-law delivered him to my office.  He shuffled.  His breath was labored and his eyes had lost the twinkle.  Most of the time he just was dead awake.

The next 60 days I loved him well.  We loved him well.  I put together a small team of family members who were willing to believe health and healing were possible.  I turned over every stone I found and we lived and breathed the 5 levels of health and healing model.  From bone broth to raw and Family Constellation therapy to healing touch.  We diced, drank  and left no stone unturned as we sought the right combination of remedies, therapies, treatments and protocols that would bring him into a world of the healed and healthy. And we won.

Day by day his energy returned.  He went from not being able to walk to baby steps and from baby steps to stair steps and from stair steps to steps across the room and then one day around the block.

He was engaged again.  He began to dream and envision and hope and he smiled for the world to see and I celebrated each and every success and clawed my way out of despair when we hit a road block or a setback and then 60 days later he went home.  This was longest he had gone without having to go to the emergency room for blood transfusions or emergency paracentesis.  We celebrated life and we sent him home to continue the journey surrounded by the things he loved most.

While I no longer could monitor his daily activities, I not only had to pick up the pieces in my own life, I slowly began to see him return to his old habits…Let’s face it kicking cancer, disease, pathology or any life threatening diagnosis in the ass is an uphill climb.  It takes a village.  It requires tenacity, vision, hard work and a plan.  He just wasn’t able to keep it going.  It was easier to order a pizza than prepare life giving meals and it required commitment and energy to take daily enemas, healing treatments, meditate, exercise and breathing visualizations.  It also took money.  Every decision was between paying  out -of -pocket for care or using the benny card for meds.  A choice of a $35 co-pay for the liver doctor or  $200/hour for the alternative practitioner.

Eventually mainstream won out.  Before I knew it he had a team of "Liver Experts" representing the finest, smartest, most technologically advanced in the United States and he surrendered to their direction.  He chose to be their patient and abandoned all and everything we did up until that time.

His life became a daily struggle for a next breathe, a next draining, a next dialysis as his kidneys failed, a next intubation as his lungs filled and I wept.  In the beginning I was just angry.  I just couldn’t stand to see him struggle.  I was filled with pain and rage and helplessness and powerlessness.  My heart hurt from the minute I opened my eyes until the minute I closed them and everything in between.

I heard his Team of professionals declare "He was doing Well"…."he was making progress" .."he was stable"…he was going to be fine and yet my naturopathic trained senses told me a very different story.  I observed all the signs I had been taught….the quality and tone of the skin, the nails, the tongue, the eyes and the breath and I saw fatality.  Yet, I also keenly understood the Biology of Belief and how that impacted the dis-ease process.  One day I brought myself to my favorite sanctuary and I asked for guidance.  I asked for help in letting go and Letting God.  That day I decided I would no longer see death or dying.  I would no longer feel the deep despair of powerlessness.  I would no longer give him subtle clues of my deep disappointment in the turn of events.  That day I decided to just be LOVE.  I decided to appreciate the team of doctors and nurses and care givers who believed in a different way.  I decided to love on him with foot rubs and neck rubs and storytelling and essential oils and the healing truth of unconditional love.  I just hugged him with my every breath and I stood present to each and every procedure, needle, oxygen, dialysis, blood draw, they would offer him.  I did it with total surrender to the path he told me he wanted to walk and I did it with a loving heart.

On February 2,  2015 we say "we walked him home."  He called me that morning from his hospital bed where he had been for 3 long months and he was having trouble breathing.  He asked if I would come.  I quickly dressed on a snow covered frozen morning and arrived at his room to find him surrounded by a team of well meaning doctors.  We were ushered aside and told….we were nearing the end and…they could make him comfortable.  I did not want to be afraid and I did not want him to see my fear of loosing him.  I sang hymns and Christmas songs and Willie Nelson and James Taylor that I knew were his favorites.  I brushed his hair,  held his hand and read from his Bible the 23rd Psalm…."The Lord is My Shepherd…."  I annointed him with the essential oils he had come to love and I watched him breathe his last breath and then we sat for hours….unable to leave…unable to say farewell….unable to let his hand go for the very last time and I wept.

To Chemo or not to chemo….to cut or not to cut….to go alternative or traditional I understood in the days that followed was not the only question to be asked or answered.  The question that also needs to be asked is How Can I serve best?  How can I be present to my loved one in this moment?  What can I offer that will help them most.

It was and is a difficult journey.  I don’t regret one thing I did.  I don’t regret trying to help him heal naturally and I don’t regret aligning myself with his wishes to take a conventional approach.  I don’t regret loving him.

If you find yourself in a similar situation I hope in some small way this personal experience can offer you at least  a glimpse into our struggle….our path…..our loss and our love.

As part of our in-take process for all new patients we have a question that reads:

Please Comment about your past health care experience, and future expectations, feelings and intent

A patient wrote, (printed with permission)

"My experience with traditional medicine (except in emergencies in which cases I have always felt grateful for their expertise) has been that doctors have been close minded as they have been unable to go outside of their “box” and it is frustrating that no matter how much experience they have or even how newly out of med school they are, they and their med schools have neglected whole areas of investigation. The doctors I have dealt with will not consider anything alternative outside of their medical and pharmaceutical world. It seems to all be about only getting rid of symptoms, AND probably I am where I am now is because I have not regularly gone for checkups. With the clinic doctors at my hospital in this particular case, they are nice but there is a lot negativity and not a lot of support and/or hope unless I were to do exactly what they say. They become impatient with my questions and either look at me like I’m crazy or shake there heads “no” (whether they have heard of something or not) when I bring up something that does not hold medical truth in their world. With a diagnosis of stage 4 colon cancer metastasized to the liver I will soon be dead (between now and a year as most people only live a year and if I am one of those few EXTREMELY lucky people there is a VERY slim chance of making it to 5, IF I stop all of this foolishness and do what they say (chemo immediately). When I suggested that I might not want to do chemo, I was met with head shaking and/or silence as if I am committing suicide an sorrowful looks. I have just in the last few days decided that I definitely do NOT want Chemo. I have not told them this. They are thinking that I will be showing up for my first chemo appt next week.  Medical professionals and friends have said,  “Why not just do both?” But I don’t want to weaken my body and inhibit it from doing its job. To me it becomes a break-even affair instead of accomplishing real healing… AND I really, really believe to my core that healing is possible for me… not just a painful extension of life – waiting to die. I want to work with people who believe this and who will guide and support me…and not think of me as crazy. We are all going to die and NONE of us knows when… I could get hit by a car tomorrow and die which would have nothing to do with cancer. I refuse to live my life by statistics, probabilities and what reports say which is why I have not looked at my medical reports and did not want the doctor to tell me how long I had to live. I hate that he and all are treating me as if I am terminal. We have all been terminal since the day we were born.  Reports and statistics don’t take individuals, God, Spirit, Soul and what we are outside of the physical into consideration…

We are all here for a reason to make a difference and to learn… When we have fulfilled our mission this time around then we move on…"

Some Experiences Leave Us Forever Changed.

As a natural health care practitioner the journey I took with my brother allows me to be a better doctor.  I am willing to stand in the fire with my patients but I am no longer held hostage by their life or their death.  There is freedom to be found in both.

Doc…Could It Be My Thyroid?

Doc…Could it be my thyroid?

Each year I have complete bloodwork done as part of my wellness protocal.

Last year was different for me. After unpacking my summer worddrobe I realized all my clothes were tight.  Geez….I thought "it sure was a rough winter and  I did not get out and walk nearly as much but I was surprised by the pounds I had put on.  As the Doc went through her checklist I told her I was definetely feeling more tired…my skin was dry and I had gained 10 pounds in one winter season.  She suggested I start exercising and increase my Vitamin D. Then I said, "Do you think it could be my Thyroid?"  She said she would run some labs and let me know.

Within 3 days her office called and suggested I start Synthroid  (T4 medication) immediately and that I would have to be on it for the rest of my life.  I set up an appointment to discuss this approach.  I asked, "why do  I need to go on medicine for the rest of my life?"   Her reply, "BECAUSE YOUR THYROID IS NOT WORKING!."  I thought to myself and this medicine is not going to do anything to help my thyroid START working.

I decided to do a  thorough review of my lifestyle and wellness plan  leading up to this diagnosis and  I realized one big change  I had made last year was to become "gluten free."  What I did not realize was that all the "gluten free" products I was consuming were  simply replacing wheat flour with cornstarch, rice starch, potato starch, or tapioca starch.  The problem was these foods trigger the glucose-insulin response that causes you to gain weight and increase blood sugar even MORE than wheat products.  For me this contributed to elevated blood sugar, weight gain and leaky-gut!

I had also become the caregiver of a close family member who was critically ill.  The emotional stress of the possibility of loosing this loved one and the responsibility I felt in helping them get well had thrown my stress levels through the roof.  I decided to take a pro active approach and be my own detective.  I am not against pharmaceuticals yet I did not want to begin there.  I felt I had to give myself a chance to explore all of the options and as a natural health practitioner I  wanted to understand what led to this change.

The first thing I did was run the correct panel of of numbers to get a more precise understanding of the clinical picture.  This is a big bone of contention in many medical offices because the Standard of Care dictates they only evaluate the TSH level. (Thyroid Stimulating Hormone) and maybe T3 T4.  There is a great deal of  controversy around this approach as Conventional Doctors have adopted the TSH as the "Gold Standard"  If the TSH is normal, the search for hypothyroidsim usually ends.  The problem here is many people with Thyroid disease have normal TSH levels because the TSH is a Pituitary hormone.  Unfortunately, this test cannot measure if all your cells and tissues are receiving the released thyroid hormones.  If you are –the TSH result will be normal.  The best way to use the TSH lab test is in diagnosing a pituitary problem, not a thyroid problem.  A very low TSH with a low free T3 gives away a pituitary issue.  As a Certified practitioner of Dr. Klinghardt’s work I often hear him in the back of my mind saying "Treat the patient…not the lab!"

Once I began to understand these 2 triggers I was not ready to jump into a lifetime of meds but I was ready to make some  corrections.

Having yearly blood work done is something I recommend for all my patients.  Unfortunately, most doctors do not really know how to interpret the results.  They simply look for highs and lows and do not consider the patterns and trends.  I ran all the tests outlined in #1 of the Thyroid Reference Guide as designed by Mary Shomon along with a CBC, metabolic and lipid profile.

My results were indicative for Hashimotos,  which is an autoimmune disease.  Hypothyroidism is a condition. It was easy to see the relationship between my increase in gluten free products combined with the emotional stress and its impact on my physiology and I began to undue the damage

Using my Functional Medicine Background I ran my own numbers

Once I saw this I understood part of the perfect storm was due to the increase in insulin from the dietary changes leading to dysglycemia and on it’s way to Metabolic Syndrome. I became acutely aware of the relationship between my increase in gluten free products combined with the emotional stress and its impact on my physiology and I made a decision to due the damage

In conventional medicine if you have a heart issue the Doctor doesn’t usually ask about your liver and if you have a gall bladder problem the Doc doesn’t typically ask about your heart. They treat each organ as a separate entity.  This is like designing and building a new kitchen without considering how big a family you have. In my own case the M.D. never inquired about lifestyle changes or other factors that may have been a trigger for my body to change from normal to abnormal. This Doc only wanted to write me a prescription.  As we we’ve said before when all you have is a hammer everything looks like a nail!

Take a look at this to better understand the relationship between systems.

Having had a history of low Vit D, the emotional stress I was dealing with which was  impacting my physiology, food intolerances leading to leaky gut and inflammation I was an Auto Immune Disease text book case.

The standard & optional ranges for Functional health is a different range than you would find with standard lab criteria.  The reason is labs such as Quest or LabCorp compare the findings to a population of diseased patients while the Functional model standard compares you to optimal wellness.  The result is Functional practitioners are able to detect underlying imbalances and identify anomolies long before you develop pathology.  Doesn’t is make sense to make the correction BEFORE you have a diagnosis?  This can be very helpful in seeing the totality of the system and not just what one organ like the Thyroid is working or not working.  If I had relied on the M.D.  I would have never understood what led up to these findings and I would have been on medication for the rest of my life.

Did you know there is such a thing as Hypothyroidism Type II – This is hormone resistance

Mark Starr, M.D. author of Hypothyroidism Type 2 explains the difference this way:

  • With Type 1 Hypothyroidism, the thyroid does not produce sufficient amounts of hormone to maintain “normal” blood levels of hormones, which in turn will maintain normal blood levels of thyroid-stimulating hormone (TSH) produced by the pituitary.
  • With Type 2 Hypothyroidism, the thyroid gland produces “normal” amounts of hormone, but the cells are unable to utilize the hormone properly. Some experts call this thyroid hormone resistance (which may be regarded as similar to insulin resistance).

Do you know that Thyroid disease is the most under diagnosed disorder and the most mis-treated condition?

Sadly, most Doc’s really miss the mark here.  When a thyroid disorder is identified the standard of care since the 1960′s is the prescribed medication of synthetic leothyroxine sodium, also called l-thyroxine or just plain T4.  Brand names can include: Synthroid, Levoxyl, Levothroid, Eltroxin, Oroxine, Unithroid, and others. is Synth.  Doctors are taught the problem is just in the thyroid, when most of the time it is not. T4 is a storage hormone.  Your thyroid also produces T3, T2, T1 and calcitonin.  For many, taking T4  is like taking an elevator that only goes to the 5th floor when you are trying to get to the Penthouse.

Do you know what the 3 different pathways for developing thyroid disease are?

Thyroid conditions most often occur because of a problem somewhere other than the thyroid gland itself, which is why the blood work can be normal and you still not feel well. There are 3 reasons for this phenomenon….

  1. Hormone Resistance (Type II thyroid resistance)
  2. A Stress-Related Thyroid Condition (rT3 Dominance)
  3. Autoimmune Thyroiditis (Hashimoto’s Disease)

 1. Hormone Resistance

Hormone resistance is the fastest growing pandemic in the world and you probable never heard of it.  Have you heard of Diabetes Type II?  The problem here is glucose cannot get into the cell.  Type II Diabetics have plenty of insulin but the cells can’t get the message to let glucose into the cell.

Likewise with Hormone resistance or Type II Hypothyroidism there is plenty of hormone but the cell is resistant to taking it in.  Active T3 thyroid hormone cannot be used in the cell because the receptors to T3 are non responsive.  Your cells are literally starving for T3, but the feedback loop from the pituitary gland gets the message that there is adequate T3 and signals the thyroid that everything is okay.  This can result in normal TSH  levels and then the Doc tells you, “your labs are fine…you do not have a thyroid condition.

Most doctors simply address the thyroid without considering the underlying issue.  In hormone resistance there is a good chance that inflammation in the cell is the problem.  One of the causes is toxins and affects the cell’s ability to receive the message.  Hormone resistance is a massive epidemic driven by inflammation of the cell. You may have heard that inflammation is the cause of most health problems today, including diabetes, thyroid, heart disease, and even cancer.  However more specifically, it is inflammation of the cell that is the problem. This underlying cause must be addressed.

In this condition taking thyroid hormone will do nothing to correct the problem.

2. STRESS

– A stress-related thyroid condition is the second reason for the phenomenon where your blood work looks normal  and you still have many of the clinical symptoms.

Perhaps you have been diagnosed and are already taking medication for your thyroid.  Maybe your blood work is normal and the Doc’s have said you are fine.

Perhaps you have a stress related hormonal imbalance.  This was one part of the perfect storm that happened to me.  Being the caretaker for my loved one put an enormous stress on me emotionally and  physically from which I am only just recovering.

3. Auto Immune

You could be one of the estimated 80% of people who have an auto-immune thyroid condition, meaning that you body is attacking itself.

The approach to healing thyroid conditions are different if you are autoimmune, hypo or hyperthyroid, Reverse T3 dominant, or have a Type II Thyroid condition.

It takes detective work and a knowledgable practitioner who is willing to not only run the correct labs but knows how to interpret them and provide proper treatment solutions.

Let’s be sure to address another part of the diagnosis and that is the emotional/spiritual connection.  Louise Hay writes that thyroid is related to "When is it going to be my turn."  Thyroid patients are often caregivers, hands on …let’s roll up our sleeves and get it done sort of people.

All dis-ease is our body messaging us that something needs to change….and that change does not happen in a pill.

Unfortunately, many people are being treated for thyroid conditions with replacement hormones and yet still suffering with a multitude of unexplainable symptoms? This can be true for so many because the doctor points to their “normal” blood work, and therefore the “success” of the medication. Of course there is a time and a place for medication, especially if you are one of those who do not have a thyroid.

What is the bottom line here?

Take Action!

Find a practitioner who will run the correct labs and is able to interpret them. Then differentiate the treatment accordingly.

If you are like me and fall into the Auto Immune category one of the most beneficial things I have done to correct this pattern was a  Liver cleanse & Gall Bladder Flush.

Did you know: 60% of thyroid hormone is converted from T4 to T3 in the liver? Thyroid hormone influences the way that cholesterol and other lipids are synthesized and broken down and this happens in the liver.  This is one of the reasons people with Hashimoto’s and hypothyroidism often have lipid panels with imbalances in their cholesterol, LDL and triglycerides.

Thyroid hormone also affects detoxification pathways in the liver and affects the enzyme system which helps us metabolize environmental toxins.  When this slows down the toxins build up.

How Does the Gall Bladder fit Into this?  The liver filters, metabolizes and cleans the blood.  Byproducts from these processes are dumped into the gall bladder to help the body get them out.  Low thyroid function slows down this whole process, making the liver and gall bladder sluggish and congested and can lead to gallstones?

Have you wondered why Gall Bladder removal is now one of the most popular surgeries done every day in this country.  It could have all started with thyroid hormones and the liver.  Had a patient met with a Functional health practitioner these signs and symptoms would not have gone unnoticed and steps could have been taken to correct the problem and many people would still have their gall bladders.

Once I fully understood this I became an advocate for liver cleanses and gall bladder flushes.  There are numerous ways to accomplish this and you can find many programs on the internet.  I caution you.   Some of these programs are incomplete and fall short of the mark and may lead to other more serious consequences.  I have dedicated a part of my work to leading groups through this process and will be offering a group again in March.  If you would like more information on this please click here.

Here are some comments from a group who just completed a 28 day Liver cleanse/Gall Bladder Flush

I feel so much better especially the pain that has lifted from my heart and chest which is caused by inflammation  due to having Lupus. Now I will work even harder taking the things that I have learned emotionally, and physically…. How to think in a much calmer way, and what works and doesn’t work for my body. If only everyone could use some of their intelligence and put it towards their health, and well being using less drugs and following some kind of a protocal we would all be in such a better place! Thank you Dr. Sharon

It was a real "wake up call" for me as it taught me how my body doesn’t need all the food I was giving it plus it has got me back to eating very little and possibly no meat. I’ve learned your mind is more often hungrier than your body. I’ve been very creative in the kitchen and the broths I will make a regular item in my diet. The only hard part was getting past all the neuro associations with eating. I feel great; lost some inches and will weigh myself on Monday. My only critique is that there were some steps and items missed from the protocol; do’s and don’ts but no biggie. We all talked it out and got our answers. Great job Dr Sharon and to all that hung in there

I was addicted to my coffee and never thought I could go 28 days.  I am astonished by the changes in my body.  My belly is flatter than it has been in years.  My skin is glowing again.  I am feeling hopeful, interested and encouraged again.  I was afraid to do this and I want to thank you Dr. Sharon for your encouragement and guidance.  I am so grateful.

If you would like more information for the next group in March 2015 please click here.

If you have read all the way through this, there’s a good chance you are searching for answers and direction.  I could go on and on as there is so much to share and understand.  I hope we have provided you with enough for you to become your own advocate and seek better answers, the correct treatment and begin the process of  total repair and recovery.

Why Can I Get Better???

 Why CAN I Get Better?

Richard Horowitz, M.D. did chronic Lyme sufferers a huge favor when he not only appeared on the Katie Show to announce to the world his understanding of Chronic Lyme Disease which he calls (MCIDS – Multiple Chronic Infection Disease Syndrome), he  also wrote a book , Why Can’t I Get Better?

According to Dr. Horowitz …"This is  a very comprehensive overview of Lyme and Tick Borne disorders with a map which can be applied to all chronic diseases.  Nothing has ever been done in this scope and breadth.  It should really help patients and doctors have a deeper understanding of the disease and how to get patients better. "  He  writes M.D. stands for "Medical Detective," and it has been this unrelentlng desire to uncover the hidden cause of disease which has helped him succeed.

Now Dr. Horowitz has the listening ear and attention of chronic sufferers and health care practitioners around the world.

I have been a Lyme sufferer.  I have written about my experiences before but I also see patients everyday who have fallen between the cracks,  been misdiagnosed, undiagnosed or whose prior treatments have provided little relief or even worse have left them penniless and without answers.

Did you notice the name of this post?  “Why CAN I Get Better?  Sometimes a small shift in perception can open an entire new landscape of possibility and potential than we had accessed even a a second ago.  Let me use one of Dr. Klinghardt’s favorite allegories to explain.

A drunk loses the keys to his house and is looking for them under a lamppost. A policeman comes over and asks what he’s doing.

“I’m looking for my keys” he says. “I lost them over there”.

The policeman looks puzzled. “Then why are you looking for them all the way over here?”

“Because the light is so much better”.

We all look for things where the light is better, rather than where we’re more likely to find them. In words of Anais Nin, “we don’t see things as they are. We see things as we are”.

A friend wrote, "If this is true – and, who am I kidding? of course it is – I worry that we all stagger around, destined to be misunderstood. Or, worse. We’re all methodically, apocalyptically misunderstood, and it’s too dark to notice."

Perhaps we are all looking for the cure where the light is.  And where is that light?  It is shining on the science of chemistry, the labs, the symptoms, the diagnosis and care plan treatments the medical doctors were required to know and are often insisted to incorporate by the insurance companies who are paying the bill.  So, what are they taught….for starters

Biochemistry but not Quantum Physics.

Anatomy but not Subtle Anatomy

Surgery but not Psychic Surgery

Pharmaceuticals but not Nutraceuticals.

Isolated organs but not organ meridian Systems

Genes but not Epigenetics

Orthopedics but  not how to interpret the tongue, nails, or pulse

Muscles but not Miasms

Food but not whole food

Cavities but not Cavitations

 Do you get the picture?

Dr. Horowitz expanded this model by devoting an entire  chapter to Meditation and Mind Training as well as providing a 16 point check list that includes:  Immune dysfunction,  Inflammation, Environmental toxins,  Functional medicine abnormalities with nutritional deficiencies, Mitochondrial dysfunction,  Endocrine abnormalities,  Neurodegenerative disorders,  Neuropsychiatric disorders, Sleep disorders,  Autonomic Nervous System Dysfunction and Allergies.

Kudos to Dr.  Horowitz.  Yet,  even Dr. Horowitz is only looking for the keys where the light has been turned on.

Let me introduce you to a perspective of health and healing where the light is still quite dim yet amazingly bright for those who are willing to see it?  Are you the type that "believes" only after you have seen it or are you the type that knows sometimes you have to “Believe” before you see it.

Quantum physics is a branch of science that deals with discrete, indivisible units of energy called quanta.   With the discovery of Quantum physics,  our understanding of the world has changed considerably.  Prior to its discovery,  it was thought that matter was solid and rigid.  Quantum Physics has shown us that all matter is made of the same materials and it is the vibration, tone and coherence of these particles that gives matter all of its properties.  This includes you and me.

Today’s scientists not only view the body as a physical structure, but also as an energetic system.  This understanding is revolutionizing the health care system and our ability to heal and be well.  While at a glance this may seem like just another strange theory,  it contains many clues as to the fundamental nature of the universe and may be more important then even relativity in the grand scheme of things.  Furthermore, it describes the nature of the universe as being much different then the world we see.  As Niels Bohr said, "Anyone who is not shocked by quantum theory has not understood it."

"Dr. Amit Goswami as usual has the most brilliant insights into how consciousness conceives, governs, constructs, and becomes biology." – Deepak Chopra

Dietrich Klinghardt, M.D. Ph.d  has a unique perspective on health and how we heal because he is trained and practices in both Germany and the United States.  He remarked that  his German patients don’t want “more tests” and “drugs” they want more energy based solutions and frequency based medicine.  His U.S. patients demand a diagnosis and treatment based on their Biochemistry and Biology.

Which model is correct?

They both are.

It’s time to shine the light on the wholeness of humanity not only as it relates to humankind but to Everykind.  The animals,  the plants, elements, solar system and multi-verse.  After all don’t we say as above so below?  We live in a multi-verse not  a Universe–our body comprises multiple systems not just one.  We have a spleen and a liver but we also have consciousness and a Bio-field.

Take a look at this chart which shows an example of how a few systems are inter-related.  .  As a Chiropractor,  if I find a patient who continually presents with a subluxation at T9/T10,  I will also check Liver/Gall Bladder function as well as any dental contribution at Tooth #6.  Using ARTesting we can determine if the tooth is contributing to the subluxation /Gall Bladder dysfunction or the other way around.

The Quantum practitioner is aware of:

Bi-directional  forces of nature and human beings

Living, structured  water and molecular hydration

Patterns, shapes,  colors & sacred geometry

Frequencies,  light,  sound & music and chanting

The biofield and the information stored therein

Resonance, coherence and wave function

Planets, solar flares,  Electro-magnetic fields, Geopathics, and their impact on humans and our impact on them

Interrelationship of teeth, organs, muscles, emotion, nutrition, vertebra and more

The meridian system and chakra system

Cellular function based on voltage, sound, light and raw materials

Patients in our office are assessed using both models.  We apply the science of logic, reasoning, lab reports, diagnostics and technology but we also value intuition, spiritual concepts, quantum physics and the frequency of love which is nature’s inherent healer.

Geneticists report that 25% of our genes are hard wired. 75% are not. Epigenetically speaking then, diseases of civilization spring mostly from inner and external environmental "obstacles to cure" matrices - colds to cancers – mycoplasmas to miasms- prions to parasites- Lyme to ley lines – ground matrix to geopathic stress - hormones to hormesis etc.

How does a health practitioner begin to unwind the complexities and layers for the patient entrusted in their care?

If one is only skilled in MTHFR–then everything will look like it’s an MTHFR issues, if one is only skilled in Adrenal Health…then everything will look like an Adrenal issue.  If one is only skilled in Gastrointestinal dysfunction then everything will look like a Gut issues.  Get the point?

At raSa health we are skilled in using Autonomic Response Testing which applies the principles of Quantum Physics and has proven to be the most accurate form of muscle testing used to determine what an individual needs at any point in time in order to restore balance to the system.

.

In the hands of a skilled practitioner, ARTesting can determine where, how and why the Autonomic Nervous System is BLOCKED and what it will take to return it to proper flow.  We also use it to determine the proper nutrients the body needs and prioritize the underlying issues that are stressing the body.

Health and healing is never a “one size fits all” approach.  For one patient, the choice of chemotherapy and surgery may be the best choice.  For another that may not be an option.

If you are seeking a model that embraces the whole system and not only the parts, you may find the answers you seek at raSa health.

A branch of medicine that recognizes this is known as Anthroposophical medicine.   Anthroposophic Medicine (Anthropos=human being: Sophia=Wisdom.  Health is a result of a harmonious relationship between all systems.  This is partnered health care.  It is not the result of someone with a white coat writing a prescription.  It is the result of partnering with a practitioner that beholds the truth of your being even when you do not know it for yourself.  This model requires communication, commitment, inner work, discipline and a willingness to experience joy, divinity and health.

Why CAN I Get Better?  Because we come with a divine blueprint that recognizes we are more than our biochemistry.  Until we shine the light on the intrinisic principles of our very nature we will continue to chase the bugs, destroy our environment and pollute our own bodies.

Why CAN I Get Better? because you are better. Embrace the fullness of your divine blueprint and you will soar to a new level of health you may have never been told is possible.

I can tell you it is.  I see it everyday in different ways.  If it happens for others,  it can happen for you.

If you have found yourself reading this and saying, yes, yes, that makes some sense to me.  Come on in and let’s shine the light on all the underlying issues that may be contributing to the process.  What I love most about this work?  The testing is so sensitive we detect imbalances BEFORE they become pathology.  We don’t wait for the car engine to fail before we bring it in for service….Doesn’t your body deserve the same care?

"We do not think ourselves into a new way of living, we live ourselves into a new way of thinking." – Richard Rohr

I Never Wanted to Be A Pain Doctor

That is true.  Unlike many Chiropractors, I was drawn to chiropractic more because the Doc’s I had been to most of my life were also Applied Kinesiologists and they could find  the underlying cause of my sniffles, aches, digestive issues or whatever was ailing me. They taught me the body was a self-healing –self-organizing system and when we have a healthy nervous system the body had a better chance to correct any underlying imbalances.  Because of my early experiences, I always felt Chiropractic was for  much more than treating pain.

Many  are surprised to learn that a chiropractic adjustment addresses something called "subluxation."  That is a big word that means "loss of light."  Many more are surprised to learn in addition to biochemistry  the body also has an electromagnetic component.  These are not separate systems but different sides of the same coin.

Therapies like acupuncture and electro-therapies  treat and evaluate according to the electro magnetic principles of the body..  My experience is optimal health and healing requires BOTH!

In  25 years of practicing, nothing leaves me feeling more helpless than having a patient in pain that I couldn’t  help. I am talking about the kind of pain that interferes with your ability to brush your teeth, drive a car, walk your dog or go to work.  These are patients of every age. Many of them have been to numerous doctors–have tried the muscle relaxers, physical therapy, pain pills, Advil and even mood elevators with little or no success! They are people like you and me who only want to feel better–get back to work — play with their kids or hit a golf ball again.

Through the years I’ve had moderate to good success with helping people in pain.  Moderate success is not good enough.  There were far more that suffered and I lost many nights sleep thinking, researching and studying new possibilities.

I have experienced pain.   I can remember how debilitating and diminished I felt.  It almost felt shameful to have someone help me to the bathroom, help me dress or fix me my meals. Many live in chronic pain everyday of their lives.  Others have had acute accidents or trauma that left them feeling like there were not many choices other than potentially addictive medications which carry many toxic side effects.

When I first saw the Dr. Oz show on pulsed electromagnetic field therapy I was relieved to learn of a non-invasive, non-toxic and often fast acting therapy that was now available in the United States.  I began to look at and experience several devices to  learn their differences and their applications.  I met many who experienced quick and lasting relief with many of them but I still  had not found the device that was right for my patients at raSa health.

You see,  many of my patients are chronic Lyme disease patients ridden with not only pain but the complexities of  mold, heavy metal and environmental sensitivities.  Their pain is often a chronic,  fibromyalgia-type of pain.  Others are athletic types who put the pedal to the metal every time they compete,  there are those  who just "got out of bed the wrong way" or helped their friend move over the weekend and now can’t move them self and ,of course, my seniors with arthritis and aging knees with chronic pain.  I needed a device that would help all of them and that wasn’t easy to find.

In May, I attended Dr. Klinghardt’s "Healing Your Brain Conference," in New York City and many of my colleagues were buzzing about the great relief they experienced from one treatment on a high voltage  PEMF device also known as cellular exercise.  I was not in any pain but I was exhausted from a grueling 3 day intensive and I thought I would give it a try.  Wow! 20 minutes on this super battery charger and I felt like I could run a marathon.

In fact I did one better and embraced a bucket list item to complete my first Triathlon.  PEMF – Cellular exercise treatments were part of my training and I am happy to say I not only finished but I actually placed in  a time I did not imagine possible.

For the next week I couldn’t get this experience out of my mind so I decided to put this device to the test. I invited my friends, family and patients with the most debilitating pain to come in for demo treatments.  Much to my amazement every one of them experienced relief.  Some — 50% but many more 100%.  Now, I was even more excited.

I then  decided to go to a practitioner’s office who was using the same device, running it 6 days a week and has a 2 month waiting list.  I spent two days watching patients with frozen shoulder, sciatica, neck pain, bone on bone knee pain, fibromyalgia, autism and farmer’s with a bad wrist,  hand and back. These patients not only got the relief they hoped for but they smiled after every treatment and gladly paid the practitioner as they walked out the door ready to engage in their daily busy lives. They were just glad to be helped and grateful to return to their busy lives.

We have over 75 trillion cells in our body.  They provide the structure for the body, take in nutrients from food, convert those nutrients into energy and carry out specialized functions.  Not many folks think about the cells as electrical devices–but they are. The cell membrane is the outside shell of the cell.  It is very thin, ranging fro 3-8 nanometers  The cell membrane is a chemical and electrical insulator.  The inside and outside of the membrane hosts a pH differential.  The pH differential creates a voltage, or electricity. This electricity is the power source for many essential functions in the cell membrane.  Anything that compromises the cell membrane power is a probable cause or co-factor in cellular malfunction. Compromise of either the cell membrane quality or the transmembrane pH differential inhibits the electrical functions of the cell, and prevents optimal cell function.  When cell membrane power is down due to lipid toxins, pathogens, or pH imbalances cells just don’t work. When cells don’t work, the body doesn’t work.

In "Emerging Electromagnetic Medicine" by M.E. O’Connor, we learn of the latest research findings in the field of electromagnetic radiation.  The book discusses the use of electromagnetic fields in diagnostic and therapeutic medicine.  It describes the theoretical concerns and actual mechanisms involved.

  Consider this:

There are three main aspects of cell-membrane power production:

1.  The lipid substrate–must insulate the inside and outside and not leak power (we need healthy fats)

2.  The pH diferential–must be balanced to enable electricity, just like a car battery (PEMF Cellular exercise)

3. Raw Materials– must be present to create chemical and electrical structures needed for the cell to work.  (proper nutrition)

Individuals exposed to PEMF, or electromagnetic therapies, exhibit often striking recoveries, when energetics restore cellular immunity.  PEMF exposure increases tissue oxygen availability through a variety of means, likely resulting i improved tissue oxygentation which enabled healing which would not have been otherwise possible.

PEMF on Pathogens

One study suggests pulsed fields assert differential effects on pathogens cells versus a host cells.  While mammalian host cells tend to absorb pulse energy and use it, parasitic organisms, that lack energetic resonance with the host, experience stress.

PEMF & EMF (Electro-magnetic fields)

Every week we receive calls from patients who tell me they can’t leave their homes and even some are living by candlelight as to reduce all exposure to electromagnetic radiation .  Many cannot use a computer or a cell phone because the symptoms become unbearable.  There is a new patient emerging.  This is how Dr. Klinghardt described the 2013 patient at the Healing of the Brain Conference in NYC:

Daytime episodes of inappropriate physical and mental fatigue and lack of zest.   Difficulty sleeping, waking unrefreshed. Difficulty with short- term memory, concentration, word finding, mood swings, decreased assimilation of new information.  Strange neurological symptoms: vibration, sounds, tingling, numbness, cranial nerve dysfunction (vagus, vertigo, tinnitus, blurred vision) General feeling of weakness, with shortness of breath after brief exertion, increased heart rate Body aches  joint pains, exercise intolerance    Sinus problems, sore throats, light sensitivity, “floaters”, cough Difficulty regulating body temperature, sometimes with night sweats and general coldness Increased thirst, but “water runs straight through”, increased urination, light urine color

Some have coined this electroplague.  http://electroplague.com/

How does PEMF affect people with EMF sensitivity?

Mark Squibb describes it this way: Individuals with electrically weak cells tend to be more sensitive  to pulsed fields because their cells respond more readily to both beneficial and harmful radiation. They tend to gain energy rapidly from pulsed fields which supports cellular metabolism.  Likewise they tend to resonate with harmful radiations  Use of pulsed magnetic fields tends to decrease sensitivity to detrimental electromagnetic radiation by strengthening the native bio-field.

There is a strong tendency for people with poor cell membrane integrity to be significantly more sensitive to electromagnetic radiation than individuals with high cell membrane integrity and optimal membrane power.  Weaker cells naturally absorb energy from wherever they can, including from stray electromagnetic sources.  Electrically weak individuals are more sensitive than electrically strong individuals.

The difference between beneficial and detrimental exposure boils down to the tendency for an exposure to impose an unnatural resonance pattern on the cell or on the body. The unnatural resonance disrupts the natural biological processes which require the natural harmonics to operate optimally. In other words, electromagnetics which draw tissues away from their natural harmonics induce disturbances which may to disrupt cellular or systemic function.

This is why cell phones (MHz), and power lines (60 Hz) tend to produce discomfort in certain individuals. These individuals generally lack the ability to resist stray harmonics, and the stray harmonics draw them into an unnatural resonance.

I’ve always believed that nature holds the key to many of our questions.  Flowers need the energy from the sun and water,  plants need the same and guess what– Humans need energy too!

If you want to prove that electromagnetic emissions have an effect on living systems, try putting a mouse in a microwave.
