Through the years I have explored the "antibiotic only" approach as well as what is referred to as the "alternative approach." Neither of them work  for everyone all of the time. If you are lucky enough to identify the exposure early on and treat you can be speared years of exhaustive treatments.  Most are not so lucky.  Part of the reason is medical doctors are trained only to treat on a positive lab finding and we know these lab tests are often inaccurate or inconclusive.  Many medical doctors are not trained in the "clinical diagnosis" of Lyme.  In my own practice the clinical diagnosis has become quite recognizable.  The patient who presents with a history of "feeling just fine" only to find themself experiencing a  litany of sequential events and symptoms such as–deep relenting pain — paralyzing exhaustion coupled with recurring sweats, memory loss, parasthesias and/or deep despair.

Like many events in my life I did not know I would one day be a Lyme literate alternative practitioner.  Becoming a Chiropractor was something that found me and so did Lyme. I could not ignore the pleas of patients of every size, race, age, culture and economic structure who would sit before me asking for help.  Many tell me how their lives as atheletes, Mom’s, Dad’s, lovers, students, musicians, coaches had been taken from them because of this dis-ease.  When the many symptoms of Lyme strike it can take you down in one fell swoop.   My heart would ache to find a solution, a remedy,  a tool, a therapy that would provide some relief for the people I am called to serve.

My journey has been coupled with my own Lyme & Mold struggle and there have been times when I was unable to do much but care for myself.  As much of what I have learned has been gleaned by my own personal struggle  I began to realize the necessity of Self-care.

Personally , I learned we must move beyond the diagnosis and care for the human being with the dis-ease and not the dis-ease itself.  In my opinion, this is the weakest link in the conventional approach to disease and  the primary cause of failure.

Autonomic Response Testing has been an invaluable tool.  In the hands of a skilled practitioner the patient’s body guides you to the underlying imbalances such as–heavy metals, environmental toxins, emotional trauma , methylation defects and is superior to find co-infections and identify dental imbalances.  It is excellent for testing food sensitivities as well as prescribing the correct combination of remedies.

I explain  my current understanding of how healing is initiated in the quantum realm  before it influences our bio-chemistry.  There are 2 basic sciences.  Bio-Chemistry –which is all about the bonds of molecules coming together and breaking apart– and Quantum Physics.  Quantum Physics is the deeper science which helps us understand the forces which allow these bonds to form and break apart.   Through the years I have experimented with various treatments based in the Quantum realm and have seen the positive impact by tracking Rhythm Graphs in pre & post Heart Rate Variability scans.  Working on the emotional/spiritual levels and treating with light, colors, sound and frequency is not only necessary– but superior.

Many of the patients we care for have been through multiple rounds of antibiotics only to discover their methylation and drainage pathways are completely compromised.  There is a sequence and a priority to healing different for each patient.  Autonomic Response Testing allows us to single out the yang vs the yin remedies and we have found the ideal treatment is one where there is not only rotation of the protocal but includes pulsing the remedies as well.

Finding  Dr. Klinghard’ts 5 levels of health & healing model not only helped me to unravel my own woundedness and pain but it has become essential to my ability to help others.

I have learned you cannot treat Lyme without treating the whole person and that means body, mind and spirit. It requires folks to travel inward before they can travel upward.  It requires flushing out the un-examined places of our life we have selectively cut out.  It demands we make time each and every day for remedies, food preparation, supplements, healing therapies and social and spiritual renewal.

Let’s face it…not many people want to hear that!  The folks that end up in my office looking for a "magic bullet" are often disappointed.  However, the folks that resonate with the path I have just outlined begin to heal and not only get their lives back but often "discover their  essence" –their unique gifts and their voice in contributing to a needy world..  These patients inspire and motivate me.  They demand I stay informed, in tune and insightful as I shepherd them through  this uncommon terrain.  What I have learned is that someone can be fully healed without being "cured" and another can be fully "cured" without be healed.  I have learned to trust the guidance of a divine knowing and allow the path to flow according to the principles of nature.  We cannot kill anything, we cannot fight any disease, we cannot be at war and win.  To return to our natural state of wholeness requires we first return to a place of surrender, trust and forgiveness….first toward ourselves and then toward the dis-ease we work so hard to heal.  Once you realize the solution is not in one remedy, antibiotic, person, place or thing you are well on your way to wholeness.  Is that a healing or is that a cure? Only you can determine that.
